Metropolitan Planning Organization

The Wilmington MPO is the federally-funded federally-mandated regional transportation planning organization for the lower cape fear region.

The WMPO conducted a 16-question survey about transportation issues and services in the greater Wilmington area. The survey ran from May 2013 to November 2013 and had over 4,100 respondents.

RESOURCE CENTER

This subpage will house selected background information and data used for the validation of project suggestions in Cape Fear Transportation 2040. There is a large amount of data that will be used to create and validate projects for our region. The selection of data on this subpage will constitute key pieces that inform the development of all modes of transportation. Additional data is available by contacting the WMPO.


 

Population Projections:

Demographic analysis to include land use analysis and growth projections were used to create an estimate of population for the greater Wilmington area to 2040. It is imperative that Cape Fear Transportation 2040 includes an evaluation of existing and future transportation needs, and thus accounts for future residential densities.

The two maps to the left show how population density is projected to change between 2010 and 2040 (2040 is the horizon year of this transportation plan).

 

Employment Projections:

Demographic analysis to include land use analysis and growth projections were used to create an estimate of projected employment for the greater Wilmington area to 2040. It is imperative that Cape Fear Transportation 2040 includes an evaluation of existing and future transportation needs, and thus accounts for future employment origins and destinations
